Chairperson

REPORTING TO: Club Committee

Role Purpose:

To motivate and facilitate the organisation of badminton within the club, including committee members and volunteers with the objective of delivering on participation, profile, pathway and performance.

Main Duties:

To lead the overall day-to-day management of the club by the Club Committee.
To sit on the Club Committee, attend and chair club meetings.
To ensure the targets of the club development plan are met.
To promote a partnership working approach across the league with external and internal agencies.
To maintain an open, equitable and inclusive environment.
To represent the club at relevant times.
To have read, understood and comply with each League’s latest rules and regulations as detailed on their respective websites or printed documents.

Experience or attributes:

Ability to lead and motivate volunteers and committees.
Good organisational and communication skills.
A positive, friendly and approachable manner.
Diplomatic when decisions are required.
A good understanding of badminton would be of benefit.

Treasurer

REPORTING TO: Club Committee

Role Purpose:

To ensure the efficient recording, reporting, administration and circulation of club information and communication, received via the County Badminton Association, the leagues, Badminton England or other internal and external agencies.

Main Duties:

To act as principal contact for the club.
To ensure there is a straightforward and efficient network of communication in place for existing and new members.
To organise and service club meetings in accordance with club constitution.
To maintain a database of committee members, club members and external contacts.
To liaise with the County Badminton Associations, leagues and Badminton England.
To bring all matters affecting the club to the attention of the Club Committee.
To book club and match nights with the Jubilee Hall and draw up next seasons blank calendar.
To enter club teams and players into leagues and events as agreed by the Club Committee.
To affiliate all club members to BADMINTON England, and relevant club members to the Winchester and Southampton leagues.
Ensure the club website is up to date accurate.
To sit on the Club Committee and attend club meetings.
Store all previous years’ club records.
Take relevant photos of the club tournament at the AGM.
Store the club accident record sheets and ensure the correct procedure is followed in the event of an accident at the club.
To have read, understood and comply with each League’s latest rules and regulations as detailed on their respective websites or printed documents.

Experience or attributes:

Good organisational, administration and communication skills.
Knowledge of computers, word processing, email and the Internet is essential.
Friendly and approachable.

Personal and community benefits:

Secretary

Match Secretary

REPORTING TO: Club Committee

Role Purpose:

Arranging club match fixtures and production of the club’s fixture list, including subsequent changes.

Main Duties:

To attend the relevant fixtures meeting and ensure all team matches are arranged with opponents.
To work in partnership with the leagues and the other club match secretary to ensure the club has a working fixture list.
To advise club members and league secretaries of any subsequent changes.
To confirm home matches with visiting team.
To liaise with and support league secretaries and the County Badminton Association as and when required.
To sit on the Club Committee and attend club meetings.
To have read, understood and comply with each League’s latest rules and regulations as detailed on their respective websites or printed documents.

Experience or attributes:

Good organisational and administration skills.
Knowledge of computers and Excel desirable.

Liaising and working in partnership with other clubs, leagues and the CBA.

Providing access to competition at a variety of participant levels, including young people.

Captain

REPORTING TO: Club Committee

Role Purpose:

Deciding on membership of teams entered in league competition

Main Duties:

To select players for each team at the start of the season (and ongoing throughout the season).
To pass match book to relevant team captains (where available) and to ensure that it is completed with the full seasons results.
To maintain records of players playing up in games and help team captains select replacement players when needed.
Work with the Treasurer to organise shuttles for club nights and home matches.
To sit on the Club Committee and attend club meetings.
Regularly check league websites to ensure accuracy of results. Liaise with team captains and League Secretaries to ensure necessary updates are completed.
To have read, understood and comply with each League’s latest rules and regulations as detailed on their respective websites or printed documents.

Vice Captain

REPORTING TO: Club Committee

Role Purpose:

Assisting in the decision of membership of teams entered in league competition

Main Duties:

To assist in selection of players for each team at the start of the season (and ongoing throughout the season).
To maintain awareness of players playing up in games and help the club captain assist team captains select replacement players when needed.
If requested by the Club Captain, organise shuttles for club night and home matches.
To sit on the Club Committee and attend club meetings.
Regularly check league websites to ensure accuracy of results. Liaise with team captains and League Secretaries to ensure necessary updates are completed.
